From Jim Geraghty, Campaign Spot, National Review
‘We will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick.’
Obama: “I face this challenge with profound humility.”
Is it humble to tell us how profound your humility is?
Dear Jim Geraghty,
Of course Obama should tell us how humble he is – remember the quote about the light shining through the window, and you’ll have an epiphany to vote Obama? Obama always implying he is far better than all those “Washington” politicians and the ability to unite people?
How about Obama sending the wife out to campaign for him and then saying “Lay off my wife.”
Chicago SunTimes columnist says: Next, Obama’s foes will go after his wife, His break from church won’t placate racial fearmongers
I wonder what prompted that remark from Mary Mitchell? I’ve seen and heard all kinds of stories about Bill Clinton. Oh, but that’s different? When Bill Clinton was running for President, Hillary Clinton was fair game and later so was Laura Bush, and Teresa Heinz-Kerry. All spouses are in the same fishbowl.
I will give Michelle Obama credit, however, she at least is more up front with her feelings of victimization and her socialist pie.

Obama socialist ties
The New Party: Co-founded in 1992 by Daniel Cantor (a former staffer for Jesse Jackson’s 1988 presidential campaign) and Joel Rogers (a sociology and law professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison), the New Party was a Marxist political coalition whose objective was to endorse and elect leftist public officials — most often Democrats. The New Party’s short-term objective was to move the Democratic Party leftward, thereby setting the stage for the eventual rise of new Marxist third party.
Most New Party members hailed from the Democratic Socialists of America and the militant organization ACORN. The party’s Chicago chapter also included a large contingent from the Committees of Correspondence, a Marxist coalition of former Maoists, Trotskyists, and Communist Party USA members.
The New Party’s modus operandi included the political strategy of “electoral fusion,” where it would nominate, for various political offices, candidates from other parties (usually Democrats), thereby enabling each of those candidates to occupy more than one ballot line in the voting booth. By so doing, the New Party often was able to influence candidates’ platforms. (Fusion of this type is permitted in seven states — Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Mississippi, New York, South Carolina, and Vermont — but is common only in New York.)
Though Illinois was not one of the states that permitted electoral fusion, in 1995 Barack Obama nonetheless sought the New Party’s endorsement for his 1996 state senate run. He was successful in obtaining that endorsement, and he used a number of New Party volunteers as campaign workers.

What about ACORN?
Before giving us a tour of Acorn’s pro-Obama but somehow “non-partisan” election activities, Foulks treats us to a brief history of Obama’s ties to Acorn. While most press accounts imply that Obama just happened to be at the sort of public-interest law firm that would take Acorn’s “motor voter” case, Foulkes claims that Acorn specifically sought out Obama’s representation in the motor voter case, remembering Obama from the days when he worked with Talbot. And while many reports speak of Obama’s post-law school role organizing “Project VOTE” in 1992, Foulkes makes it clear that this project was undertaken in direct partnership with Acorn. Foulkes then stresses Obama’s yearly service as a key figure in Acorn’s leadership-training seminars.
And
With Obama having personally helped train a new cadre of Chicago Acorn leaders, by the time of Obama’s 2004 U.S. Senate campaign, Obama and Acorn were “old friends,” says Foulkes.

France offers Iraq rebuilding aid (BBC NEWS)
French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner is in Iraq to offer help in rebuilding the country and promoting national reconciliation.
Mr Kouchner, whose visit began in the southern city of Nasiriya, is holding talks with senior officials.
France was one of the fiercest critics of the 2003 US-led invasion, and this is Mr Kouchner’s second visit to Iraq in less than a year.
He told reporters his message was one of “peace and co-operation”.

The UN said in a BBC story last week that they would also assist in rebuilding Iraq. The fact that other countries are now willing to help is a good sign that we are having success in Itaq.
